Phase 1 with the seeds: Imperial Star Artichokes, Yellow Garden Sorrel, Bloomsdale (bolt resistant) Spinach, Rainbow Chard, Golden Beets, Loofah, Mortgage Lifter Tomatoes, Green Zebra Tomatoes, Big Rainbow Tomatoes, Borage, Curly Parsley (for the butterflies--I don't really get using parsley in food)
Some of these prefer to be directly sown, but since soil blocks don't have that plastic netting like peat cakes I'm thinking they'll be okay getting an indoor start.
I think I'm also going to take the dirt and start a bunch in Dixie cups, and newspaper pots, too.
You know, a little bit o' the ol' scientific method.
Wish me luck! Are you growing anything this year?

WOW, that amazing! I'm growing parsley, basil and other herbs.
Lovely! I've got greens and root veggies going right now.
wow! where do you get soil blocks? i need to get started. (i've only got porch containers to grow in though..)
naome--herbs are wonderful--and the parsley will attract the beautiful black swallowtail butterfly!
Jessica--I wish I'd gotten some greens in the ground, I love the cold crops but usually miss out on the goodness.
Sarah--I made my blocks (there's several DIY instructions on the internet) but maybe you can find someone that has extra? The whole concept is new to me this year, and I spent a ton of money getting all the supplies together + the cost of a blocker.
