Vermi-what?

Saturday was a really nice day, I spent the morning learning about mid-sized vermicomposting bins. I also learned (was reminded?) that red wigglers can eat anywhere from half to twice their body weight in a day! Um, yeah, I'm underfeeding mine for sure.
Lots of time talking with like-minded peeps, which was very rejuvenating, then a little bit of time getting the new bin set up. This particular bin, when at optimal population, will digest 10 pounds of food scraps a day. Where will the 10 lbs come from? A kitchen prepares our local meals-on-wheels--the same kitchen that teaches cooking as job training for those in difficult job placement situations. And they have a sizable garden for growing some of the food that is prepared. It's an amazingly progressive while simultaneously apolitical program--the kind of thing that makes me want to talk and talk and talk about it. Spewing out passionate statements like, "This is what it's all about." Instead of more blabber, though, how about some pictures?

Pics remind me of the vermicelli I cooked Saturday afternoon. Coincidence? I think not.
