When I posted about building my business by *possibly* taking it to the next level {ie trade shows}, a reader named Claudia suggested I familiarize myself with the Design*Sponge Biz Ladies posts. There I found out about MailChimp, so lookee here! Now I've got a form up on the ol' website for signing up for the newsletter! I won't have to keep a spreadsheet of email addresses, either. Goodness gracious, that little chimpanzee took a big ol monkey off my back.

The funny thing is, I haven't been reading Design*Sponge much these days. Not because I don't love it, but because of a couple other factors: a handful of their writers seem to lead such amazing lives. I get down on myself because they're doing what I want to do, but how can they afford to play with their chickens and can and garden all day!??

Which leads to the other reason I don't visit daily, like I used to. All the pretty stuff they feature, dangled in front of me like the elusive carrot. It's not that I'm unhappy with my life and the things we have, I am, in fact, head over heels in love with my home and family and every single moment I spend watching chickens and staring into the fish pond.

But. . .it's all so shiny and new. . . and pretty. . . and. I want. it. all. . . so I eliminated the temptation for the most part, and when I do visit I savor every bit of prettiness, like the Vogue magazine I buy every 5 years or so.

Except now I know other people get lost in the competitive entrepreneurial environment, other parents are navigating family time while pursuing their passions, and that Design*Sponge isn't just glossy, but it's packed with content. So thank you Grace and all, and thank you Claudia for the wonderful tip!

Now, go sign up for our newsletter, wontcha? Then get your weekend started--what are you getting into?

Why thank you! And I am glad you found something of value. It does help to know you're not alone! My daughter is working through something similar. She has a full time job, three kids - each with their own schedules, thee cats, a dog, and a house. She's a girl scout leader, knits, reads, does yoga, and runs a green home. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

She has also started her own business: www.landofcakebelieve.com. And lo and behold, she's slowly getting business! I gave her car magnets as part of her birthday gift this past March, and she gets phone calls from them! Someone from Lord & Taylor actually called her to do a demo in their store. Sometimes it's the little things...

I recently purchased a book for one of my clients called ETSY success stories from this gal: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Epheriell?ref=seller_info I've only glanced through it, but it looks as if there are some interesting tips in there.

Keep at it, laugh when you want to cry, and you'll get there. Remember that if the grass seems greener on other people's blogs, all you need to do is water your grass.

Renee-

I had this same post (about wants, money, and how do they all afford it?!) written typed out, erased, typed again...and then saved in "edit" mode. It's still sitting in my blogger posts area.

I'm not saying that it feels good to read my exact thoughts on somebody else's blog, but it sure is a nice to see that I'm not the only one feeling this way (it feels like i am, most days). While I do love thrifting, it's exhausting when it's something that you *have* to do if you want anything new.

So thanks for this. :)

Renee, I've felt exactly the same way. I too get caught up in all the coveting and envy and thinking of where I SHOULD be rather than enjoying where I am. Thanks for the reminder that it's okay to feel this way, and that's it's okay to choose to pull back for a while.
