I got mine at Old Time Pottery, it's a closeout store kind of like Big Lots, but they also sell non-closeout goodies, too. This one was probably originally from Target or some other department store, but was a whole lot cheaper because of where I bought it. I would imagine checking out garage sales would be pretty good, too.
Any heavier, food-safe bowl should work: glass, ceramic, copper, etc.
It's a part from the plumbing section of the hardware store, it's called a floor flange. Should run you about $3 or so. even if you want to put your birdbath on a deck you can use 2 of them, one to connect it to the floor/railing, etc, so you don't have to bury it, and the other to the bowl.

Where do you get the glass bowl?

I like it!! What is the thing that you attach to the bottom of the bowl that the pole screws into?
