Laundry List

This is going to sound whiny and privileged, so bear with me and know there are also regular life things going on, so the following "issue" isn't really an issue, just an ongoing search for a clutterbug's organizing solution.

Our laundry room is in an upstairs alcove, which means it's visible as a space you walk past anytime you're upstairs. It's a 10 x 10' sunny, warm, welcoming spot when clean, but a stressful eyesore the rest of the time. Let's face it, stressful messy rooms don't get used, and I need to use the laundry room or they'll start complaining at work.

In my eternal quest for a vacation-land home, I'm stuck. We have a few items (pictured above: free desk rescued from the dumpster by the Mr., similar dresser to the one shown via Craigslist, 3 sorting baskets from Ballard Designs) and I want to keep it as simple as possible.

Any great ideas come to mind for helping me make our ugly space pretty? I'm ready to start outsourcing laundry...hey, that's not such a bad idea.

I don't have any real suggestions, but feel like there's a lot of potential there! My laundry area is thankfully in the basement but it's a someday project to get it all organized and (dare I say?) make it an enjoyable space to complete some unenjoyable chores. Good luck!

mine is in a closet. thankful for doors that close. hang the ironing board somewhere unobtrusive, and maybe find some cute vintage/remnants to make cafe-style curtains with those little metal circle clips? Would be fast and minimal sewing. I love those baskets, btw.

Is that desk low enough to fit under the window? Could you paint its legs? Hmm. I wish I could come over and play with this space with you!

Hi, just found your blog. I have a utility room (think 3 foot square cupboard off kitchen!) which is in dire need of a rehaul too. The desk and drawers you have are a fantastic start, nice and sturdy and plenty of storage space. I would suggest hanging some kind of curtain/fabric panel around the base of the desk, then you can hide a whole load of stuff under there, even the laundry basket. This will free up the top of the desk for more neat storage. Maybe you could hang a peg board above the desk to hang spare hangers, peg bag etc. Hope this helps and look forward to seeing how you get on. x
